Bricks in SURREY

Bricks for your outbuildings

Bricks make a better, sturdier and more secure outbuilding than wood ever will. Sure, a wooden shed will be quicker and easier to site, probably cheaper too, depending on the size and where it was purchased from, it just won’t last anywhere near as long.

Bricks will offer the ability to have a purpose built shed, workshop or potting area, without the worry of poor security. Even the security measures often employed on wooden sheds are never as robust or effective as the security measures used on buildings constructed from bricks.

When you consider the cost of all the tools you build up over the years, it makes sense to ensure you have secure and strong outbuildings to store them in. The cost of replacing them in the event of a burglary can be huge and sometimes not even covered under insurance if they decide your security wasn’t up to scratch. Buildings made from bricks can take the same type of locks as your house, so will always be far more secure.

Bricks as a base for sheds, greenhouses and more

Rows of bricks are a great way of raising a wooden shed off of the damp ground. This will help the wood last much longer as water will not collect around the base of the shed. Greenhouses and cold frames will also benefit from a row of bricks as a secure and level base.

You may even have enough spare bricks left laying around from a previous building project to get this simple job done.

Some older properties have existing wooden sheds with tiled roofs. These are often on a concrete base that is the same level as the surrounding garden, allowing water to run through them like a river. A secondary base made from either loosely laid bricks or even fixed bricks, can prevent this from becoming an issue.

Coal bunkers, garden storage units and even bin stores are much better when made from bricks. This is even more important if you have an issue with rodents, as they will chew through wood in no time to gain access to whatever is inside. Not even the most determined mouse or rat will get very far attempting to chew through bricks.

Surrey is a county in South East England which borders Kent to the east, East Sussex to the southeast, West Sussex to the south, Hampshire to the west, Berkshire to the northwest, and Greater London to the northeast. With about 1.2 million people, Surrey is the 12th-most populous English county, the third-most populous home county, after Kent and Essex, and the third-most populous in the Southeast, after Hampshire and Kent.

What is a home county?

The home counties are the counties of England that surround London. The counties are not precisely defined but Buckinghamshire and Surrey are usually included in definitions and Berkshire, Essex, Hertfordshire and Kent are also often included. Other counties further from London, such as Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, East Sussex and West Sussex, are not normally regarded as home counties, although on occasion may be thought of as such due to their close proximity to London and their connection to the London regional economy.

Abundant woodland in Surrey

Surrey has the highest proportion of woodland of counties in England. The county also has four horse racing courses, and golf courses including the international competition venue at Wentworth.

Gorgeous walks in Surrey

Surrey is divided in two by the chalk ridge of the North Downs, running east to west. The ridge is interrupted by the rivers Wey and Mole, tributaries of the Thames, which formed the northern border of the county before modern redrawing of county boundaries, which has left part of its north bank within Surrey. To the north of the Downs the land is predominantly flat, forming part of the Thames basin. The geology of this area is dominated by London Clay in the east, Bagshot Sands in the west, with gravel and other such deposits left by the rivers.

Surrey has an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways including the North Downs Way, a scenic long-distance path. Accordingly, Surrey provides many rural and semi-rural leisure activities, with a large horse population in modern terms.
