Brick typeWeinerberger Smeed Dean London, Aldwych Yellow Rustica and Smeed Dean Estuary Yellow

Site Details: Finchley  N3

Contractor: Fair Oak Construction

Architect: KO Architects

Project details: This stunning property is located in a popular area of Finchley.  Each of the houses has different architectural character, most of them built between 1930 to 1970.

The brief was to create a modern rustic quality family house.  The clients want all the internal areas flooded with natural light, but without losing its privacy.  The Architect responded to the challenge by designing the façade with large vertical windows, similar to the Victorian building.  The clients also wanted to have an open feel to all areas but without the loss of each area’s own identity.

The brickwork act as a key role as the horizontal element, to counterbalance all the vertical windows in this façade design.  The colour of the brickwork will also play another important role in this modern rustic façade for blending into this residential area, without compromising its uniqueness.

Many samples of bricks have been brought on site, few sample panels have been built.  As a result, the façade of this new family house is constructed with three Wienerberger bricks – Smeed Dean London, Aldwych Yellow Rustica and Smeed Dean Estuary Yellow.  The combination of these three different bricks together with the prefabricated pre-cast Portland stone bay windows, it creates this calm, elegant, modern rustic façade for this new family house.

This beautiful project has been put forward for the annual BDA brick awards 2022
